Dear colleagues and friends,
may be you are not aware of the fact that the majority of malaria cases in Sub-Saharan Africa are not treated with the WHO-recommended, effective artemisinin-based therapeutic combinations, but by traditional treatments, and sometimes with a mixture of medicinal plant preparations and conventional “old” drugs, such as chloroquine, to which malaria parasites have developed high levels of resistance.
Convinced as we are that malaria control, to be effective and efficient, needs to be tackled trough a multidisciplinary approach, we are organizing a training workshop on modern drugs and traditional treatments for the control of malaria. Among the invited lecturers there are scientists from malaria endemic countries, the WHO and the Italian Malaria Network. They bring together expertise in the field of drug discovery&development, standardization and safety issues of antimalarial remedies, treatment delivery to whom it needs, public health financing through bilateral and international agencies…
The workshop, organized by the School of Advanced Studies and the PhD Programme on Malaria and Human Development, takes place in
Polo di Alta Formazione, Camerino, Via Lili n.55 from 17th to 25th July.
The detailed programme is available at

or from the Unicam homepage (eventi).
Plenary lectures (17-18-19 July) are open.

With best regards
